Screens are keeping us connected now more than ever, but they are still disruptive to in-person communication. In an article for The Conversation, Dr. Tracy Dennis-Tiwary explains that although technology is a tool used to facilitate connection, it also serves as a disrupter when used during face-to-face interactions. Through the Modified Still Face task and a new ‘Phubbing’ study yet to be published, Dr. Dennis-Tiwary shows just how social-emotional functioning is disrupted when technology gets in the way of in-person communication.
